BRAKES

Brakes are one of the most important devices on your vehicle. They help keep you safe on the road. It is important to ensure they are responsive and working properly.

Why Do I Need New Brake Pads?

1. Improve Safety & Stopping Capabilities

Braking causes wear on brake pads. As the pad continues to wear down it can lead to longer stopping distances.

2. Protects Your Rotors

Brake pads help prevent the rotor from rubbing metal on metal. The pads help prevent deep pits and damage from occurring in the rotor.

3. Economical

Replacing worn brake pads is significantly more cost effective than having to replace an entire braking system.

Why Would I Need New Rotors?

1. Rotor is Too Thin

If excessive wear has caused the rotor to become thinner than the manufacturer’s minimum thickness, they would need to be replaced.

2. Warping

Braking causes friction and heat. If brake pads have been worn through and if the rotors have overheated, they can become warped.

3. Deep Groves

When the brake pads have worn too far down, the rotor begins rubbing against metal. This can cause pits and grooves in the rotor. There are options to machine smooth the rotor, but once they become too thin, they must be replaced.

What are Signs I Need to Have my Brakes Inspected?

1. Squeaking Noise

Hearing a squeak or screech noise when braking can be a sign your brake pads have worn down.

2. Grinding Noise

If you hear a grinding noise coming from your brakes, this is a key indicator is time for a brake job. Grinding is caused by the brake pad being completely worn down and the rotor rubbing against metal.

3. Vibrations or Spongy Pedal

When braking, if you feel vibrations or like you are pressing on a sponge instead of a brake pedal, it is a signal your brakes need service. The rotors could be warped or there may be more severe issues with your braking system.
